All of these issues will affect most of us. A general election has been called and will be held on 12th December 2019. The next few weeks are some of the most important weeks of our lives. We have an opportunity to change our country and the course of history. We must use our vote. We must decide.
Many Muslim organisations including MCB and the Muslim Public Affairs Committee UK (MPACUK) are actively engaging Muslims and encouraging them to vote however more needs to be done. If you haven’t registered to vote you must do so immediately.
The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) is the UK’s largest and most diverse national Muslim umbrella organisation with over 500 members including mosques, schools, charitable associations and professional networks. The MCB has launched The Muslims vote campaign, a platform for Muslims to participate in politics “As British Muslims we have a civil obligation to engage in the political process. Political engagement through voting is not a luxury – it is a necessity. It’s important to make our voice heard!.”
Muslim Public Affairs Committee UK (MPACUK) has been in the UK political scene for 17 years. “Muslims have the power to decide the next UK Government in the next General Election. Help us get organised before the next General Election. The Muslim Vote has the power decide at least 30 seats in the UK. The current government has been exposed as being deeply Islamophobic, racist and xenophobic. They have systematically demonised and persecuting the British Muslim. As part of Operation Muslim Vote, MPACUK have developed a nation-wide map to help British Muslims research the information they need before they cast their vote in the General Election”- MPAC.
During this election there will be many issues affecting Britain’s Muslim communities from Islamophobia, gender inequality, poverty, racism, NHS, the foreign policy. All Muslims need to vote to see change. Voting is a fundamental right of any citizen enabling them to choose the leaders of tomorrow.
Many people do not vote thinking one vote will not make a change, but as a matter of fact it will. Leading Muslim scholars have given their backing to the Get Out and Vote website.
Register and make your vote count on 12th December 2019. We urge the Muslim Council of Britain to do more and get this important message out there immediately.
