The Tell MAMA project which measures anti-Muslim attacks in the UK issued a report indicating that there was a spike in incidents reported to them after Boris Johnson’s column was published in the Telegraph  about Muslim women comparing them to ‘letterboxes’ and ‘bank robbers’. The incidents rose from 8 incidents the previous week to 38 anti-Muslim attacks the week following publication.  This was 13 months ago and Boris Johnson still hasn’t apologized.

Johnson’s comments caused many complaints and Theresa May head of the conservative party at the time asked Johnson to apologize however a panel assessed whether he had  broken the Conservative code of conduct and found that he had not.

In Parliament earlier this week MP Tanmanjeet Dhesi demanded Johnson apologize for his racist comments on Muslim women as a report from Tell Mama has found that hate crime against Muslim women rose to 375%.

“Mr. Speaker, if I decide to wear a turban or you decide to wear a cross or he decides to wear a kippah or a skullcap or she decides to wear a hijab or a burqa, does that mean that it is open season for right honorable members of this House to make derogatory and divisive remarks about our appearance” Dhesi continued.

“For those of us who from a young age have had to endure and face up to being called names such as towel head or Taliban, or coming from bongo-bongo land, we can appreciate full well the hurt and pain felt by already vulnerable Muslim women when they are described as looking like bank robbers and letterboxes,” he added.

British advocacy group Hope Not Hate issued a report earlier this year stating that anti-Muslim prejudice was the driving force behind the rise of the far right in an “increasingly divided” Britain.

It’s one thing to think of these comments but to write an article knowing the devastating consequences is disgusting.

Johnson’s comments are from an attitude of superiority and prejudice he is inciting racial hatred and this is a hate crime and he should be accountable. Even now knowing the extent of his comments and the fact that they have increased hate crime against Muslim women he should apologise and not defend his atrocious behaviour.

his comments have increased hate crime against Muslim women in Britain and for someone in power it is not setting a good example. He should be ashamed of himself, firstly for making the comment and secondly for refusing to apologise!!
